Four friends finish school and go on the holiday of their lives: Malia in Crete. They expect girls, drink and a perfect week. What they get is an empty apartment, sunstroke, abuse and constant humiliation. The film ends the series by taking the characters to the bottom one last time. Ben Palmer directed. The source is The Inbetweeners, three series of British television, with the same cast. There is an oddity about the location. The story is set in Crete but most of it was shot in Magaluf, on Mallorca in Spain, with Magaluf standing in for Malia. Filming began on 6 February 2011 and ran six weeks. The numbers explain why it counts. The budget was 3.5 million pounds; it took 39 million in Britain and over 58 million worldwide. It was more profitable in the UK that year than Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hangover Part II and Transformers, and became the third biggest film of the year behind the last Harry Potter and The King's Speech. It was the highest-grossing comedy in Britain that year. Who it is for: people who watched the series and like humiliation comedy. Who it is not for: anyone who cares how the characters talk. The film runs on degrading jokes about sex and bodies and presents that as characterisation.
