The Indian Scarf

A rich lord dies. The will is read and the condition is clear: to inherit, all the relatives must spend a week together at the castle. The castle is on an island, and when the sea rises it is cut off. The relatives arrive and every one of them detests the others. On the first night one of them is found dead, strangled, with an Indian scarf round the neck. The next day, another. Those left are simultaneously trying to work out who is doing it and quietly pleased that their share is growing. Alfred Vohrer directs the German film; eighty-six minutes, with Heinz Drache, Klaus Kinski and Siegfried Schürenberg in the cast, adapted from an Edgar Wallace novel. Germany made a long run of Wallace adaptations through the sixties; this is one of them, and one of the most confined.
