The Innocent

On New Year's Eve, after a row with her boyfriend, Mane drives from Mexico City to her parents' house in Cuernavaca. Her car breaks down on the road. Cruci, the mechanic who comes to help, gives her a lift on his motorcycle. Back at the house they see the new year in together and drink. In the morning her parents arrive, find the two of them there, and the pair end up having to marry. Rogelio A. González's Mexican comedy brings Pedro Infante and Silvia Pinal together, with Sara García in the cast. The telling does not endorse a forced marriage; the absurdity is exactly where the comedy comes from, two people bound to each other over appearances when nothing happened at all. The film is counted a classic in Mexico and is still shown.
