What The Invader Is About
An African man living in Belgium without papers is trying to find a place of his own and some sense of belonging. Every door he comes to is shut; work, housing and language are all opened by somebody else’s permission. The relationship he forms with a wealthy woman looks like a way out and turns into another shape of the same inequality. In his first feature Nicolas Provost builds the migrant story not as a tale of victimhood but as a tension in which anger and desire grow together. Issaka Sawadogo leads; the film screened at Venice.
