The Investigator

Tibor is thirty-seven and leads a quiet life. He learns that his mother has cancer and that the cost of the operation is far beyond what he can raise. Just then a one-eyed man brings him an offer: he will provide the money, and in return Tibor has to kill someone. Tibor accepts, and the chain starts there. Attila Gigor's Hungarian film shifts its tone deliberately: the same scene can be dark and funny at once. Zsolt Anger takes the lead. The film does not simplify the moral question; Tibor's reason is understandable, but what he does stands there in the open and its consequences come back to him. The plot opens step by step and keeps its resolution for the end.
