What The Invitation Is About
Rémi, a bachelor clerk who lived for years with his mother and follows every rule to the letter, buys a large house with the inheritance she leaves and invites the whole office to a garden party. As the day goes on the drink takes hold, the measure everyone keeps at work comes loose, and people start saying to each other what they have never said; one makes a fool of himself, another shows a side nobody expected. The next morning they all sit down at their desks again and behave as though none of it happened. Jean-Luc Bideau appears in Claude Goretta’s hundred minute Swiss film; it was completed in 1973.
