What The Italian Is About

Beppo is a gondolier in Italy who goes to America so that he can marry his Annette and make a home for her. But what waits on the other side of the sea is not a fortune: he gets by shining shoes in the lower districts of New York. Living in a rented room with his wife and child, his baby falls ill and needs an expensive milk. The producers had first given the picture a word used as an insult against Italians for a title; they dropped it at the request of the leading actor. George Beban plays the lead in Reginald Barker’s seventy eight minute silent film, completed in 1915.
