What The Jammed Is About
Dee McLachlan’s 2007 Australian film begins with a young woman reluctantly helping a Chinese mother look for her daughter and moves into the trafficking networks of Melbourne. The script is not invented: McLachlan built it out of Australian court transcripts, official reports and documented cases. It was shot on a low budget with no government money at the start, and no distributor would put it in cinemas; it only opened after critics in Sydney and Melbourne took it up, and then did well. It was subsequently called the best Australian film of 2007 by several of them, and won best feature and best script at the IF awards.
