One night in Noida, a fourteen-year-old girl and the man who worked in the house are found dead. The police close the case fast and blame the parents. When it moves to the central investigation agency the picture changes, and then changes again. The film shows the same night in three different accounts. Meghna Gulzar directed, from a screenplay by Vishal Bhardwaj. Irrfan Khan plays the investigator, Konkona Sen Sharma and Neeraj Kabi the parents. The source is the 2008 Aarushi Talwar murder, a case that stayed in the Indian news for years and raised arguments about how the media steered it. The structure is deliberately close to Rashomon: the subject is not who saw what but what institutions want to believe. The same scene is shot three times with different details. The hardest passage is the meeting between the two investigation teams, where two agencies draw completely opposite conclusions from the same evidence. The film does not decide and never says whether the family was guilty. Who it is for: viewers who like case adaptations and cold procedural drama. Who it is not for: anyone after a clear answer; the uncertainty is the point.
