What The Jar Is About
In the yard of a village school in Iran, in the shade of a tree, stands a large earthenware jar. All the pupils drink their water from it. One day the jar starts to leak. The teacher tries to find a new one and cannot. One way is left: to have the old one repaired. That simple task sets every relation in the village in motion. The film turns a small problem into a mirror of a community. The account keeps children and adults at the same scale. The eighty six minutes take place in a single school yard. Behzad Khodaveisi and Fatemeh Azrah appear in Ebrahim Forouzesh’s Iranian film, completed in 1992.
