Vanessa Compagnucci What The Jewel Is About
Amanzio, at the head of the family firm, filled the management with his relatives, the company tried to grow international and sank into debt. The accountant Bolta keeps it standing by closing the books year after year, but such a thing has a known ending. What neither summary says changes the weight of the film: this is not invented but an account of Italy's largest corporate collapse, the Parmalat scandal, with the names changed. The little jewel of the title was what the company was proudly called in its region. Toni Servillo plays the accountant.
