What The King's Surrender Is About
Philipp Leinemann's 2014 German film is set in an unnamed large city. A special operations raid slips out of control: two men are shot, a third gets away, and one officer is badly hurt. When two more members of the unit are later found dead, the group wants one thing only, and the law stops being part of the calculation. A second strand follows a youth gang living in another district of the same city, and the film shows both sides from the inside. Leinemann keeps the line between good and bad deliberately blurred and clears neither the police nor the gang. Ronald Zehrfeld and Mišel Matičević lead.
