What The Last Angry Man Is About
Doctor Sam Abelman has grown old in Brooklyn caring for the people of his own neighbourhood, never having cared about making money. When his nephew Myron, who wants to be a journalist, writes a piece about him, it catches the attention of a television producer, Woodrow Thrasher, who wants to make the doctor the subject of a programme. But Abelman is suspicious of all this interest; he believes both his nephew and the producer are thinking of their own gain, and refuses to take part. Daniel Mann’s hundred minute American film was adapted from a novel and is about how television turns sincerity into goods. Paul Muni plays Abelman and David Wayne plays Thrasher; it was completed in 1959.
