What The Last Drive-In Theater Is About
Marlombrando comes back to his home town with his sick mother and meets both his father and the drive in cinema of his childhood again. Almeida keeps the place running with two employees: Paula, who looks after the projection and the snack bar, and Jose, an old friend who sells the tickets and cleans up. Marlombrando’s arrival and the threat of demolition fall in the same stretch of time, and all three of their lives shift direction. The film covers a hall on its way to closing without singing a lament over it; what it is really after is not the building but the habit that gathered inside it. Othon Bastos appears in Ibere Carvalho’s ninety eight minute Brazilian film, completed in 2014.
