What The Last Family Is About
The Polish painter Zdzisław Beksiński recorded every part of his life on video camera: the paintings, the arguments at home, illnesses, funerals. The film draws twenty-eight years of a family out of those tapes. Beksiński is mild in manner and paints dark pictures; his wife Zofia tries to hold the household together; their son Tomasz works in radio and as a translator, and is constantly on the edge of harming himself. Jan P. Matuszyński directed. A serious warning: this family's real ending is a suicide and a murder, and the film shows both.
