The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die

The closing film of the series The Last Kingdom. The series told of Uhtred, a Saxon noble raised by Danes, and the process by which England became a single kingdom. After five seasons the story was unfinished; this film gathers up what remained. King Edward dies and the throne is empty. There are claimants, Danish forces are moving in the north, and Uhtred is caught in the middle again: whom to swear to is unclear and he has to protect his own land. The narrative focuses on a large battle, based on the engagement known in history as Brunanburh. The film keeps the series' cast and register; the staging, the manner of fighting and the choice of locations are on the same line. The source is Bernard Cornwell's novel series. Alexander Dreymon plays Uhtred. It was shown directly on a streaming service. For viewers of the series it means the closing of the story. For a new viewer the film introduces almost nothing; the characters' history and the ties between them go unexplained, and this is not a production to watch on its own.
