What Ponniyin Selvan: Part I Is About

The tenth century and the Chola empire. The throne is threatened from inside and outside; the crown prince Aaditha Karikalan, his brother Arunmozhi Varman and the emperor are all apart, and a messenger carrying word between them holds the balance. Nandhini, once close to Karikalan, is planning to bring the empire down from within. Adapted from Kalki Krishnamurthy's novel, serialised in the fifties, which many people tried and abandoned filming over decades. The younger brother is the future emperor Rajaraja. The film stops in the middle of the story; part two arrived in 2023.
