The Last Right

Daniel Murphy is a lawyer in America. He flies from Boston to Ireland for his mother's funeral. The old man next to him on the plane dies, and the man's surname is also Murphy. A misunderstanding at the airport leaves Daniel with the body; on paper he appears to be the only relative. The man's last wish was to be buried on Rathlin Island, next to his brother. Daniel collects his autistic brother Louis and Mary from the mortuary, and the three of them cross Ireland end to end with the coffin. Aoife Crehan directs the Irish film; a hundred and six minutes, with Michiel Huisman as Daniel, Niamh Algar as Mary, Samuel Bottomley as Louis and Colm Meaney in the cast. It is Crehan's first feature. It welds a hearse to the shape of a road movie; the comedy and the grief travel in the same car.
