The Last Station (2009): Plot, Cast & Where to Watch

Name: The Last Station
Genre: Drama, Romance
Released: 2009
Duration: 112 min
Cast: Helen Mirren, Christopher Plummer, Paul Giamatti, James McAvoy, John Sessions

What The Last Station Is About

The last year of an elderly writer: his wife, his disciples and the running battle over who inherits his work. The film does not put the thinker on a plinth; he is a man struggling to live by his own teaching, fighting with his wife and dependent on her. Helen Mirren could easily have been played as hysterical and is not, and her objections are largely justified. Telling it through a young secretary is a good choice, since he carries the distance between admiration and reality. The station at the end is faithful and desolate.
