The Legend of Paul and Paula

Paul and Paula live on the same street. Paul has a good job, is married, and his marriage ended long ago. Paula is bringing up two children alone and getting by with difficulty. When they meet, something strong starts between them at once. But Paul's career and his settled order push the relationship back every time. Heiner Carow's film became one of the most watched productions in East Germany: more than three million viewers in a country of seventeen million. Its political tone almost kept it from being released at all. Peter Gotthardt wrote the music, and the songs were performed by Puhdys, the best known East German rock band of the time. It is still counted a cult film today.
