Jab We Met

An Indian romantic comedy that begins on a train. Aditya has taken over his father's company, the business is going badly and he is not content with his life. One night, with no plan, he boards a train. In the same carriage is Geet: a woman who never stops talking, trusts everyone, and runs her life entirely on her own decisions. When Geet gets off, Aditya gets off with her. The journey stretches to Punjab and then to another city. Geet is carrying out her own escape plan; she wants to reach the man she loves, and Aditya helps her. The idea is that the two change each other: the silent man learns to talk, and the woman who talks constantly comes face to face with the results of her own decisions. The register shifts in the second half; the comedy thins and the narrative goes somewhere more serious. Imtiaz Ali directed. Shahid Kapoor plays Aditya and Kareena Kapoor plays Geet. The part is counted a turning point in her career. The music is what the film is known for, and the songs stayed popular in India for a long time. One of the best-loved examples of its kind for anyone who likes Indian romantic comedy and road films. It runs close to two and a half hours and the second half slows noticeably.
