What The Little Girl Who Was Too Fond of Matches Is About
Two adolescents have been raised from birth in an isolated manor in rural Quebec, under the rules of a despotic and misanthropic father. They may roam the forest freely but are forbidden to go down to the village. One morning they find the man hanged in his room and are suddenly on their own. The one who goes to the village meets a different truth there: she is in fact a girl, and pregnant. Simon Lavoie adapted Gaetan Soucy's novel and shot it in black and white, joining the language of fairytale to horror. Frightening without ever putting anything on display.
