What The Longest Distance Is About
Martina learns that she is dying and decides to travel from Spain to the Gran Sabana in Venezuela; the place she wants to die is Roraima, among the oldest mountains on the planet. Her grandson Lucas, who has just lost his mother, finds her, and a journey that starts out like a child’s adventure ends up on the far side of a country, while hers is a one way trip made with complete resolve. Claudia Pinto Emperador’s hundred and thirteen minute Spanish Venezuelan co-production sets a chaotic and violent city beside a natural paradise and puts freedom of choice at the centre. It was shot in the Gran Sabana, in Caracas and at the summit of Roraima, and it won the Platino award for best first feature.
