The Lords of Discipline

A military academy in the American South in the 1960s. Will is starting his final year. A Black student, Pearce, has been admitted for the first time, and Will is asked to keep an eye on him. It becomes clear soon enough that there is a structure inside the school: a secret group of elite cadets known as The Ten. What they want is for Pearce to leave of his own accord, and they are prepared to use torture to arrange it. Franc Roddam adapted the film from Pat Conroy's novel, with David Keith as Will. It is about the closed order of American military colleges and how that order protected its racism. Permission to film in the United States was refused, so it was made in England.
