The Lost Son

Xavier Lombard was with the Paris police; now he is a private detective in London, barely getting by. An old colleague, Carlos, brings him a job: his brother-in-law Leon has disappeared and needs finding. The family pays, Lombard starts work, and the case he took for easy money leads somewhere else entirely. Following Leon's trail he walks into a network in which children are sold. From that point it is no longer about finding a missing man; it is about what that man saw and what Lombard will do with it. Chris Menges directs the British film; a hundred and two minutes, with Daniel Auteuil as Lombard and Nastassja Kinski, Katrin Cartlidge, Ciarán Hinds and Billie Whitelaw in the cast. Menges came up as a cinematographer, and it shows: dark, tight interiors, very little light.
