The documentary argues that a diet high in fat and stripped of carbohydrate, the ketogenic diet, can reverse disease. Narrated and produced by the chef Pete Evans, it presents cases of asthma, autism and cancer: a child who begins speaking within ten weeks, a woman who says her tumour shrank. These claims are not supported by the evidence. The Australian Medical Association called for the film to be taken down, saying the risk of misinformation was too great. What worried doctors most was that viewers would conclude they could treat cancer with diet. The ketogenic diet does have an established medical use in drug-resistant epilepsy, but that does not stand in for the general claims the film makes.
