The Magnificent Scoundrels

Valentino is a small-time con artist who wants to pull off something big and cannot. Kwan is in the same line of work, and when the two run into each other they start working together. They go from disguise to disguise: doctor, relative, rich businessman, whatever the job needs. Then they run into a swindle larger than their own; the gangsters have a kidnapping planned and the pair land in the middle of it. From there it becomes a matter of who is fooling whom, changing hands continuously. Lee Lik-Chi directs the Hong Kong comedy; ninety-six minutes, with Stephen Chow in the lead and Teresa Mo and Amy Yip in the cast. Chow and Lee made comedy after comedy together in the early nineties, and Chow's way of joking through language counts as a genre of its own in Hong Kong cinema.
