The Man with the Carnation

The film tells the last years of Nikos Beloyannis. Beloyannis was a member of the Greek Communist Party. He had served in the resistance years as well. Much of his life was spent in prison. After going abroad he returned to the country. Before long he was caught. A charge of espionage was brought against him. The case was heard before a military court. The hearings drew wide attention. Objections came from many parts of the world. Even so a death sentence was passed. It was carried out in 1952. The carnation he held came to be remembered with him. Foivos Gikopoulos and Manos Katrakis take the leads in Nikos Tzimas’s Greek film of 1980.
