The Marriage Escape

Jan has been married to Gedda for thirty-five years. Gedda loves him so much that she leaves him no air: the glass is in front of him before he can reach for it, and she picks his clothes, his friends and his holidays. To get himself a little room, Jan comes up with a strange plan that turns his marriage quite literally into a locked ward. Their daughter, meanwhile, is in the same bind with a jealous and controlling boyfriend. Johan Nijenhuis directs, with Herman Finkers as Jan and Johanna ter Steege as Gedda. Finkers is a well-known comedian who also has a writing credit. The film was an unexpected box office success in the Netherlands, and it puts ageing and the question of care underneath the comedy.
