What The Mighty Celt Is About
Fourteen year old Donal becomes passionately attached to greyhound racing and starts working at Good Joe’s kennel. Joe promises him ownership of his favourite greyhound, The Mighty Celt, on one condition: the animal must win three races in a row. Meanwhile Donal’s mother Kate has to rearrange her own life when a man from her past comes back. The political climate of Ireland stands behind the whole story and quietly narrows the choices open to the characters. The film gives the bond the boy forms with the dog as a question of having something of one’s own. Gillian Anderson, Robert Carlyle and Ken Stott appear in Pearse Elliott’s eighty two minute Irish film, completed in 2005.
