A small town in North Carolina, summer. A group of children pass the time in abandoned buildings, along the railway, at the edge of a pool. Among them is George, who wears a helmet because his skull is soft and is not allowed in the water. During a game one of the children dies, and the rest decide to tell nobody. David Gordon Green's first film, made with non-professional children in a slow, poetic register. It shows poverty without asking for pity. A child's death and the silence after it are at the centre.
