The Mountain

Zachary Teller is an old guide who fell out with the mountain years ago and no longer climbs. His younger brother Chris is another matter entirely. When a plane goes down in the Alps, Chris asks him to go up there with him. He is not going to rescue anyone: he means to strip the bodies in the wreckage. Zachary agrees rather than let his brother go alone, and up on the glacier each of them finds out what the other is. Edward Dmytryk directs, with Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner. It is adapted from Henri Troyat's novel. Shooting was done in the French Alps, around Chamonix and on the lower slopes of Mont Blanc. What begins as a mountain picture turns into a reckoning between two brothers.
