The Mover

Zanis Lipke was a dock worker in Latvia. His was an ordinary life. In the war years the country came under Soviet and then German occupation. In Riga there were Jews shut into a ghetto. Lipke began taking people out of it. He did it in secret. Those he brought out he hid on his own land. He dug a bunker under his garden. His family was part of the work as well. Every move carried the risk of being caught. His own struggle to get by went on at the same time. The account takes off from a real person. Matiss Kipluks and Mihails Karasikovs are in the cast as well. Arturs Skrastins and Ilze Blauberga take the leads in Davis Simanis Jr.’s Latvian film of 2018.
