The Mystery of Mr. X

Nicholas Revel steals jewels in London. One night he takes the Drayton Diamond. That same night a policeman is killed outside that house. A killer is already at large in the city. He calls himself Mr X. He sends the police a letter before every murder. He sets policemen as his targets. He is said to have served fifteen years in prison. He means to kill one policeman for each of those years. Because of where the murder happened, suspicion falls on Revel. The man has to clear his own name. So he decides to find the killer himself. Meanwhile he loses his heart to the daughter of the head of Scotland Yard. The film was adapted from a novel by Philip MacDonald. Robert Montgomery and Elizabeth Allan take the leads, with Lewis Stone also in the cast, in Edgar Selwyn’s American film of 1934.
