Skyscraper Souls

David Dwight, a bank president, makes his own bank grant him a vast loan. With the money he puts up a remarkable skyscraper. The board questions whether the loan was proper. Dwight is after bank mergers in order to protect his building. At the same time, and despite Sarah, who has been with him for years, he sets about seducing her secretary Lynn. Then he joins a scheme by one of the board members: inflate the bank’s stock and sell it short. They do it just before the market crashes. The film shows the skyscraper not as a sign of success but as a structure everyone is caught inside. Warren William and Maureen O’Sullivan appear in Edgar Selwyn’s ninety nine minute American film, completed in 1932.
