What The Naked Dawn Is About
Santiago, who robs trains in Mexico, loses his partner in a raid and reaches an isolated farm with a wound. On the farm live young Manuel and his wife Maria; they are in debt and about to lose their land. Santiago promises Manuel easy money and the two of them pull off a job together; on the way back both the man’s money and his wife are put at risk. The film does not divide the bandit from the farmer as bad from good; it looks at what each is prepared to risk. Edgar G. Ulmer’s eighty two minute American western was shot cheaply in a few locations; Arthur Kennedy appears. It was completed in 1955.
