The Nutcracker Prince

The Nutcracker Prince, directed by Paul Schibli, is a Canadian animated film based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, with music drawn from Tchaikovsky's ballet score. The voice cast includes Kiefer Sutherland, Megan Follows, and Peter O'Toole. Made on a budget of 8.5 million dollars, the film grossed only around 3.5 million dollars combined in the US and Canada, a commercial failure. The film holds a low 14 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes; Roger Ebert named it among the worst films of 1990. Who it's for: anyone curious about a Canadian animated film drawing on a ballet classic's score, voiced by names like Peter O'Toole and Kiefer Sutherland. Who it's not for: viewers looking for a critically acclaimed animated film, since this failed both at the box office and with critics.
