The Other Side

Daniel Posada's 2024 Colombian film opens with a forty-year-old poet waking handcuffed to a hospital bed. He is held responsible for his mother's death; he says it was an act of love, since the plan was to help her die and end his own life at the same time. The film neither confirms nor refutes the claim. The narrative moves between interrogation, flashback and the poet's own account; there is more than one version of the same event and which is true stays unresolved. The subject touches the debate over assisted death but the film argues no thesis; its real interest is in how intention could be proved. Julian Roman leads and is in nearly every scene. Who it's for: those who like Colombian cinema and drama built on an ethical dilemma. Who it's not for: viewers sensitive to suicide and assisted death; the film discusses both in detail and directly.
