What The Outside Story Is About
Charles Young is a withdrawn editor who lives an orderly life in his second floor apartment. One day he locks himself out, and his life takes an entirely different turn. Looking for a way back in, he is forced to face the world he has been keeping at a distance and the people of his block. The film holds the whole event to a single street and a single day. The account uses being locked out not as a catastrophe but as a necessity; it is the only way of getting the man outside. A broken heart lies beneath the story but is never turned into a lesson. Each of the neighbours is a short but finished encounter. Brian Tyree Henry plays the lead in Casimir Nozkowski’s eighty five minute American film, completed in 2021.
