What The Oyster and the Wind Is About
Marcela lives on an island with her father José, who keeps the lighthouse, and with old Daniel. Her only link to the world outside is a boat that occasionally brings supplies. Daniel teaches her to read and shields her from her father’s severity. The father believes his daughter should be kept away from the world; she would like a few days in town. When she reaches adolescence the enclosure becomes unbearable, and she makes herself an interlocutor out of the wind she talks to. Walter Lima Jr adapted the film from a novel by Moacir C. Lopes, and Leandra Leal, who plays Marcela, was named best actress at Biarritz.
