Innocence

The story is set in the nineteenth century. There is a young girl living in the countryside. Her name is Inocência. She falls ill with malaria. A doctor is called to the house. Cirino stays a few days and treats her. Over those days the two of them fall for each other. But her future has already been settled. Her father has promised her to a wealthy landowner in the district. He is firmly against what is happening. The two try to keep it hidden. The rules of that countryside bend for nobody. The film was adapted from a novel by Visconde de Taunay published in 1872. Fernanda Torres was seventeen here and it was her first film. Edson Celulari and Sebastião Vasconcelos appear in the hundred and eighteen minute film, a Brazilian production Walter Lima Jr. finished in 1983.
