The Pleasure of His Company

Biddeford Poole is a man who makes himself agreeable without effort. He was absent for most of the life of his daughter Jessica. He turns up again just as she is preparing to marry a California rancher. His former wife is not impressed by the arrival. Jessica, on the other hand, falls quickly for her father’s charm. His return soon becomes a problem standing in front of the wedding. She has to decide whether or not to go through with it. The film runs the charm of the father figure and his irresponsibility side by side. Fred Astaire and Debbie Reynolds take the leads, with Lilli Palmer also in the cast. George Seaton’s hundred and fifteen minute American film was completed in 1961.
