The Pride of St. Louis

Jerome Dean played baseball in America. Everyone called him Dizzy. He was a country boy who came up from nothing. In the nineteen thirties he pitched for the St. Louis Cardinals. Later he moved to the Chicago Cubs. He was talked about off the field as much as on it. His way of speaking and his grammar were laughed at. Even schoolteachers complained about it. An injury came in the middle of his career. His arm was never the same and his playing days ended early. An empty life stood in front of him. His wife stayed with him through that period. In the end he found a second occupation. He started calling games on the radio and made it stick. Dan Dailey and Joanne Dru appear in the ninety three minute film, an American production Harmon Jones finished in 1952.
