What The Promising Boy Is About
An ordinary young man takes a blow to the head and turns into somebody else entirely, setting off on a run of rebellious behaviour that bewilders everyone around him. Set in Belgrade in the early 1980s, the film doubled as a showcase for the Yugoslav new wave and punk scenes: the music is by Sarlo Akrobata, and members of that band, Dusan Kojic Koja and Ivica Vdovic, make up the fictional group VIS Dobri Decaci with Aleksandar Bercek, the lead actor, on bass. Vlada Divljan and Srdjan Saper of Idoli also appear. Milos Radivojevic’s hundred and six minute film was later declared cultural property of great significance by the Yugoslav Cinematheque.
