What The Quiet Family Is About
A father who has lost his job gathers the family and opens a guest house on a deserted mountain road outside Seoul. Nobody comes for weeks, and when the first guest finally does, he is dead by morning. They bury him to avoid the reputation, then a second body appears, and the graves in the garden multiply while the family tries to carry all of it as a secret. Kim Jee-woon’s first film holds horror and black comedy inside the same shot. Choi Min-sik and Song Kang-ho are in the cast, years before they were famous. Takashi Miike’s The Happiness of the Katakuris comes from this story.
