Manfred von Richthofen is the pilot with the most kills of the First World War and Germany turns him into an emblem. The film shows him inside the fame: photographs, postcards, congratulations from commanders who have never seen the front, and a growing unease. His relationship with a nurse and his question about what the war is for move to the centre. Nikolai Müllerschön made it in English despite being a German production and put the money into the air sequences, which are the best thing in it. Matthias Schweighöfer leads.
