Ahlo's family in Laos believe he is cursed and hold him responsible for everything that goes wrong. When a dam forces their village to be cleared, they take to the road. Along the way Ahlo meets Kia, an orphan, and her uncle, a man in a purple suit who worships James Brown. To prove he is not cursed he has one chance: build a rocket and fly it at the Rocket Festival, the most dangerous competition of the year. It takes place in one of the most heavily bombed countries in history, where unexploded ordnance is still in the ground. Kim Mordaunt shot it in Laos in Lao, and in 2013 it took a Crystal Bear and the Amnesty International prize in Berlin.
