The Saint of Fort Washington

Matthew is young, schizophrenic, and out on the street when the building he lived in is torn down. He ends up in a vast men's shelter in New York called Fort Washington. There a man called Little Leroy singles him out. The one who protects him is Jerry, a combat veteran who knows the street and is trying to get back on his own feet. The two make money washing car windscreens and plan to rent a place. Something like a father and son forms between them. But nothing at the shelter lasts long. Tim Hunter directs, with Matt Dillon as Matthew and Danny Glover as Jerry. Ninety-nine minutes. The film sets out to show what homelessness in New York was at the end of the eighties and start of the nineties, and the shelter scenes are the hardest part of it.
