Around 1950, in provincial Iceland, Freyja returns from America, where as a girl she had been plump: she is a widow now, with a very small waist, seven suitcases of dresses and a list of everyone who ever wronged her. She moves in with her aunt and her socialist uncle, and the first item on her agenda is finding a new husband. There is a pair of eyes watching her in the house: Agga, not yet a teenager, who relays the story to us and does not trust Freyja at all. But both the order of the town and the woman herself are more complicated than they first appear. Ágúst Guðmundsson’s hundred and two minute Icelandic film was adapted from a novel; Margrét Vilhjálmsdóttir plays Freyja and Ugla Egilsdóttir plays Agga. It was completed in 2001.
