Outlaw: The Saga of Gisli

The film is based on one of the Icelandic sagas. The person it tells of is Gísli Súrsson. The events take place in Iceland in the tenth century. The head of a family wants to strengthen its bonds. He proposes that blood brotherhood be sworn. Just as the bond is to be made, it goes wrong. Suspicion and resentment get in the way. The result is the opposite of what was wanted. A killing follows. In that period blood revenge is an obligation. Vengeance has to be taken, and it is. What comes after runs as a chain. Every answer brings a further answer. In the end Gísli is declared an outlaw. Arnar Jónsson and Tinna Gunnlaugsdóttir appear in the hundred minute film, an Icelandic production Ágúst Guðmundsson finished in 1981.
